FISL: See you next year!
The Forum Internacional Software Livre (FISL) was happening in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, in April 19, 20, 21 and 22th. It was a great event! I arrived in Porto Alegre the day before the event. For the first time in this event, we had two Fedora booths there, as described in our wiki. Many people were there, including some guys from Red Hat worldwide, Richard Stallman, Google, some KDE and GNOME guys, government, and many more. You can see the key speakers in this link and the all the papers and lectures in this link.
We had 5.339 attendents to the event from 24 countries. It was a great success! I congratulate all the organization guys: they do the second biggest event for free software (software livre) in the world.
All the lectures were streamed live in the TV do Software Livre and will be available as download videos later, as we prepare everything like last year. Talking about the last year, you can get the videos from last year’s lectures in this link with bittorrent.
In the Fedora side, we had a shy (well, not too much) but useful booth:
Many flyiers were distributed, telling what the Fedora Project is, and its Sub-Projects. Many people asked about the end of the Fedora Foundation, and we explained every aspect of it, telling that it will not affect anything in the Project. There was three main community events with Fedora: two about the Fedora Project, and one about the Fedora-based distribution in a Single CD called Ekaaty. The Fedora Ambassadors were present, like me, Pablo Barrera, Rodrigo Padula, Rodrigo Menezes, and some contributors. It was a pleasure to know everybody.
This was a good event for the Fedora Project, as people realized that we are strong too, and here in Brazil, we are gathering together and forming a good and big community, united.
My speak about “Writing Documentation and Sharing Knowledge” was a great success, with a full room. I’m glad that I could talk to many people about this free software feeling: share. The lecture is available in my personal page. Here are some photos:
Many photos will come later, as it will be gathered by many people who attended the event. I’ll post updates later with links.
Back to Sao Paulo now (and tomorrow to Brasilia), I’ll miss this great event for another one year. Bye Bye FISL! See you next year!
